The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) has adopted a model regulation for life insurance illustrations. The model regulation defines an illustration as any presentation with non-guaranteed elements shown over a period of years. The purpose of the model is to provide rules for life insurance illustrations that will protect consumers and foster consumer education. A key provision requires a life insurance buyer to sign a statement confirming that he or she understands that the illustration is not a promise or guarantee. The NLG ForeSight system complies with the NAIC model regulation and each producer is responsible for complying with the regulations concerning illustrations in the states in which they do business.
